Jesus said in Matthew 7:
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.
We had a front blow through here this afternoon and wouldn’t you know it, the bird’s nest in our tree ended up providing a great illustration of what Jesus was talking about, though in this case it wasn’t “sand” but a tree branch.
How many people are “building lives” that are as “shaky” as this bird nest? Going further, I think you could argue that much of what we regard as permanent in our lives is no more so than a Robin’s nest in an average tree on a windy day. There is something significant to be said for walking by faith and not by sight.
